Safety Instructions

Read and understand all instructions before operation. Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  1. PPE: Always wear safety helmet, hearing protection, eye protection (visor/goggles), protective gloves, chainsaw protective trousers, and boots with steel toe-cap and non-slip sole.
  2. Work Area: Keep bystanders and animals at least 15 meters away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors only, with engine stopped and cool. Use fuel/oil mix as specified. Wipe off spills.
  4. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip. Do not let this part contact wood or other objects.
  5. Carrying: Carry saw with engine stopped, guide bar and chain pointing backwards, and cover fitted.

WARNING! A chainsaw is a dangerous tool if used incorrectly. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble the guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar pad on saw. Fit the chain over the sprocket and onto the guide bar rails. Fit the guide bar onto the bar studs. Place the bar clamp over the studs. Screw on and tighten the bar nuts finger-tight.
  2. Tension Chain: Lift the tip of the bar. Using the side-mounted tensioner screw, adjust until the chain fits snugly against the underside of the bar. Retighten the bar nuts securely.
  3. Fill Fuel & Oil: Use Husqvarna 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio) for the fuel tank. Fill the separate chain oil tank with Husqvarna chain oil.
  4. Check Chain Brake: Pull the front hand guard towards the front handle to engage the brake. It should click into place. Push the guard back to disengage.

CAUTION! Ensure the chain is installed with cutting teeth facing forward on the top of the bar. Incorrect installation can cause dangerous operation.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Main Components: Front Handle, Rear Handle, Throttle Trigger, Throttle Trigger Lockout, Stop Switch, Choke/Stop Control, Chain Brake/Front Hand Guard, Fuel Tank Cap, Chain Oil Tank Cap, Decompression Valve (if equipped), Primer Bulb (if equipped), Side-Mounted Chain Tensioner.

Operation: The throttle trigger lockout must be pressed before the throttle trigger can be engaged. The chain brake is engaged manually by pushing the front hand guard forward or automatically by inertia during kickback. The combined choke/stop control has three positions: Stop (O), Run (I), and Choke (Full choke symbol).

Starting & Stopping the Saw

Cold Start:

  1. Place saw on flat ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set choke control to choke position.
  4. Press primer bulb 4-6 times (if equipped).
  5. Hold rear handle with right foot, grip front handle with left hand. Pull starter handle sharply until engine fires (usually 2-5 pulls).
  6. Move choke control to run position.
  7. Pull starter handle again until engine starts.
  8. Blip throttle to disengage fast idle. Disengage chain brake.

Warm Start: Follow steps 1, 7, and 8 (use run position, not choke).

Stopping: Release throttle. Press stop switch to "O" position.

Tip: Always start the saw at least 3 meters from the refueling area.

Basic Cutting Techniques

Always use full throttle when cutting. Let the chain do the work.

  1. Felling (Cutting Down a Tree): Plan escape path (45-degree angle behind tree). Make notch cut (1/3 of tree diameter). Make felling cut opposite notch, leaving hinge wood.
  2. Limbing (Removing Branches): Stand on left side of trunk. Cut branches on opposite side of trunk using the guide bar's bottom edge. Beware of spring-loaded branches.
  3. Bucking (Cutting Logs): Support log off ground. Cut from top down for logs under tension. Use a sawbuck for multiple cuts.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Maintain a firm grip. Do not cut with the tip. Keep saw at waist level or below.

WARNING! Never cut above shoulder height. Be extremely cautious of pinch points and wood under tension.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check all controls and safety devices. Clean air filter (if dirty). Check fuel and oil levels.
Weekly / 10 HoursClean cooling fins and cylinder cover. Clean spark plug. Check spark arrestor screen (if equipped).
Monthly / 50 HoursClean fuel filter. Check fuel line for cracks. Clean chain brake mechanism. Check guide bar for wear and groove depth.
Annually / 100 HoursReplace spark plug. Clean carburetor air intake. Check all screws and bolts for tightness. Professional inspection recommended.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

A sharp, properly tensioned chain is essential for safety and performance.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Lift tip of bar. Turn tensioning screw clockwise until chain is snug against bar underside (pull links up from bar - they should just clear the bar). Hold bar tip up and retighten bar nuts securely.
  2. Sharpening: Use a round file matching chain pitch (e.g., 4.0 mm). File each cutter from inside out at the specified angle (typically 30°). Maintain original depth gauge setting; file down depth gauges with a flat file as needed to maintain correct height difference (0.65 mm). Ensure all cutters are filed equally.

CAUTION! Always wear gloves when handling chain. A loose chain can derail; an over-tightened chain can break and cause excessive wear.

Storage

For storage longer than 30 days:

  1. Empty fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Empty chain oil tank.
  3. Remove chain, clean in solvent, dry, and soak in oil. Clean guide bar groove and oil holes.
  4. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  5. Store in a dry, locked place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never store a chainsaw with fuel in the tank for extended periods. Old fuel can damage engine components.
