Safety Information

Read all instructions before operation. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety helmet, hearing protection, protective glasses, gloves, chainsaw protective trousers, and boots with steel toe caps.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 meters away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors only when engine is cold. Use clean, fresh fuel mix (gasoline and 2-stroke oil).
  4. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip. Never cut with this part of the bar.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous tools. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. The chain brake is a safety device but does not eliminate the risk of kickback.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar and Chain: Place bar on mounting studs. Fit chain over sprocket and onto bar groove. Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar. Tighten bar nuts finger-tight.
  2. Tension Chain: Use side-mounted tensioner to adjust. Correct tension is when chain snaps back after being pulled away from bar. Tighten bar nuts securely.
  3. Fill Fuel Tank: Use recommended 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio for Husqvarna XP® oil). Shake container well before filling.
  4. Fill Chain Oil Tank: Use special chain oil (not waste oil). Check oiler function.
  5. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and chain brake function correctly.

CAUTION! Never operate without proper chain tension and lubrication. Always check chain brake function before each use.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Front/Rear Handle: Contains throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and front hand guard/chain brake. Right Side: Combined choke/stop control, decompression valve (if equipped), air filter cover. Left Side: Side-mounted chain tensioner, spark plug.

Key Controls: Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed to access throttle. Chain Brake: Manual activation via front hand guard; inertia-activated. Stop Switch: Moves between RUN and STOP positions. Choke Control: For cold starting. Decompression Valve: Reduces compression for easier starting (press before pulling starter cord).

Starting & Stopping

Cold Start:

  1. Place saw on flat ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set choke control to full choke position.
  4. Press throttle lockout and pull throttle trigger. Hold while pulling starter cord 3-4 times until engine 'fires'.
  5. Move choke control to half-throttle position. Pull starter cord until engine starts.
  6. Blip throttle to disengage start throttle setting. Release chain brake.

Warm Start: Do not use choke. Follow steps 1, 4 (without holding trigger), and 6.

Stopping: Release throttle. Move stop switch to STOP position.

Tip: Never drop-start the chainsaw. Always start on the ground with secure footing.

Operating Instructions

Proper cutting techniques ensure safety and efficiency.

  1. Basic Stance: Stand with feet apart, left foot slightly forward. Hold saw firmly with both hands.
  2. Starting a Cut: Apply full throttle before the chain touches the wood.
  3. Felling Trees: Plan escape path (45-degree angle behind tree). Make notch cut (1/3 of tree diameter), then felling cut. Use felling wedge if needed.
  4. Limbing: Stand on left side of trunk. Cut branches from top side. Beware of spring-back.
  5. Bucking (Cross-cutting): Support log properly. Cut from top if log is supported on both ends. For tension/compression wood, understand forces to avoid pinching.
  6. Kickback Prevention: Maintain firm grip. Do not cut with bar tip. Keep saw at waist level or below.

WARNING! Never operate above shoulder height. Be extremely cautious of pinch points and spring poles.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check all controls and safety devices. Clean air filter. Check for loose nuts/bolts.
Weekly / 5 HoursClean cooling fins and cylinder. Clean spark plug. Check fuel filter. Clean chain brake mechanism.
Monthly / 20 HoursReplace spark plug. Clean carburetor air intake. Check fuel line for cracks.
Seasonally / 100 HoursReplace fuel filter. Clean carburetor (or have serviced). Check clutch and sprocket wear.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper care extends life and improves cutting performance.

  1. Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 4.0 mm / 5/32"). Maintain 30° filing angle. File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges with gauge tool.
  2. Cleaning Bar Groove: Remove bar and clean groove with narrow screwdriver. Rotate bar regularly for even wear.
  3. Checking Sprocket: Replace if teeth are hooked or worn. Use matching rim sprocket.
  4. Lubrication: Always use chain oil. Check oil flow by pointing bar tip at light surface and running at full throttle; oil should fling off.

Tip: A sharp chain reduces operator effort and is safer than a dull one.

Storage

Prepare chainsaw for storage if not used for more than 30 days.

  1. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  2. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops to empty carburetor. For long-term storage, add fuel stabilizer to fresh fuel, run for 10 minutes, then drain.
  3. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil. Clean bar groove and coat with oil.
  4. Store in a dry, cool place, protected from dust. Cover with a cloth (not plastic).

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in the tank for long periods. Old fuel can damage engine components.
