Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear chainsaw chaps, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Zone: Avoid contact with the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Use fresh fuel mix.
  5. Chain Brake: Test before each use by engaging manually.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate a chainsaw while tired, under the influence, or in poor weather conditions.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble on a clean, stable surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on mounting studs. Fit chain with cutting teeth facing forward. Adjust tension.
  2. Fill Oil & Fuel: Use Husqvarna 2-stroke oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio). Fill chain oil reservoir with bar and chain oil.
  3. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and chain brake function correctly.
  4. Initial Start-up: Follow cold start procedure. Allow engine to warm up at idle.

CAUTION! The chain is sharp. Always wear protective gloves during assembly.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main Controls: Front Handle with throttle lockout, Rear Handle, Throttle Trigger, Chain Brake Lever (front hand guard), Combined Choke/Stop Control, Decompression Valve, Primer Bulb, Master Control Lever (choke/fast idle/run).

Safety Features: Chain Brake (manual/inertia), Right Hand Guard, Chain Catcher, Throttle Lockout.

Maintenance Points: Quick-Release Air Filter Cover, Side-Mounted Chain Tensioner, Spark Plug, Cylinder Cover.

Starting & Stopping the Engine

Cold Start:

  1. Engage chain brake. Place on firm ground.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set Master Control Lever to choke position.
  4. Press primer bulb 4-6 times until fuel is visible.
  5. Pull starter handle until engine fires (1-4 pulls).
  6. Move Master Control Lever to fast idle position.
  7. Pull starter handle to start. Allow to idle briefly.
  8. Blip throttle to disengage fast idle.

Warm Start: Master Control Lever in fast idle position. No priming needed.

Stopping: Release throttle. Move Master Control Lever to STOP position.

Operation & Cutting Techniques

Always use proper grip: left hand on front handle, right hand on rear handle. Thumb wrapped underneath.

  1. Felling: Plan escape path. Make notch cut and felling cut. Use wedges if needed.
  2. Limbing: Work from trunk outward. Support log properly.
  3. Bucking: Cut from top side when possible. Beware of pinch points. Use proper supports.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Maintain firm grip. Do not cut with bar tip. Keep chain sharp and tensioned.

Tip: Let the chain do the work; avoid forcing the saw. Keep the chain speed high during cuts.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check all controls and safety devices. Clean air filter. Inspect for loose parts.
Weekly / 5 HoursClean spark arrestor screen (muffler). Clean exterior of saw. Check fuel filter.
Monthly / 20 HoursReplace air filter. Check spark plug. Clean cooling fins. Inspect guide bar for wear and groove condition.
Annually / 100 HoursReplace fuel filter. Clean carburetor (or as needed). Check all nuts and bolts for tightness.

CAUTION! Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing maintenance.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 5/32" for 3/8" chain). Maintain 30° filing angle. File all cutters to equal length. Check and adjust depth gauges with a depth gauge tool.

Tensioning: Chain should be snug against the bar but pull freely by hand. Adjust with side-mounted tensioner when chain is cool. Re-check tension after a few minutes of operation.

WARNING! A loose chain can derail. An over-tightened chain can damage the bar and engine.

Storage

For storage longer than 30 days:

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops to empty carburetor.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil. Clean guide bar groove and oil hole.
  3. Clean entire saw. Apply light oil to cylinder through spark plug hole and pull starter slowly.
  4. Store in a dry, cool place, protected from dust.

CAUTION! Old fuel can cause starting problems and damage the engine. Always use fresh fuel mix.
