Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operating the chainsaw.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety helmet, hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, protective trousers, and safety boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at a safe distance. Be aware of your surroundings, including overhead power lines.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine stopped and cooled. Wipe off any spilled fuel.
  4. Kickback Danger: Be aware of the kickback zone (upper quadrant of the bar nose). Use a reduced-kickback bar and chain. Maintain a firm grip.
  5. Chain Brake: Ensure the chain brake is functioning correctly before each use.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. The chainsaw is a dangerous tool if used improperly.

Engine Operation

For optimal performance and longevity, operate the engine within its designed parameters.

  1. Break-in Period: During the first few hours of operation, avoid running the engine at full throttle for extended periods. Vary the speed.
  2. Warm-up: Allow the engine to warm up at idle for 30-60 seconds before applying load.
  3. Cooling: Ensure the cooling fins on the cylinder are clean and unobstructed.
  4. Load: Do not overload the engine. Use the correct chain and bar for the task, and keep the chain sharp.
  5. Shut Down: Allow the engine to idle for a short period before stopping to stabilize temperatures.

CAUTION! Never operate the engine without the air filter, muffler, or spark arrestor screen installed.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Right Side: Throttle trigger, throttle trigger lockout, front hand guard/chain brake, stop switch.

Left Side: Choke/stop control lever, air purge bulb (on some models), side-mounted chain tensioner, combination tool (stored in rear handle).

Rear: Master control lever (combines choke, stop, and warm start positions), primer bulb (if equipped), rear handle with vibration dampeners.

Top: Spark plug cover, fuel and oil tank caps, decompression valve (if equipped).

Fuel & Lubrication System

Use only clean, fresh fuel and high-quality oil.

  1. Fuel Mixture: Always use a 50:1 mix of unleaded gasoline (min. 90 octane) and Husqvarna 2-stroke oil or an equivalent JASO FD, ISO-L-EGD certified oil. Never use straight gasoline or motor oil.
  2. Mixing: Mix fuel in a clean, approved container. Add half the gasoline, then all the oil, then the remaining gasoline. Shake well.
  3. Chain Oil: Use Husqvarna chain oil or a biodegradable chain oil with good adhesion properties. Check the oil level frequently.
  4. Fuel Filter: Located inside the fuel tank. Replace annually or if clogged.
  5. Fuel Line: Inspect for cracks or brittleness. Replace if damaged.

Tip: Do not store fuel mixture for more than 30 days. Stale fuel can cause starting and performance issues.

Starting & Stopping Procedure

Follow these steps for safe and reliable starting.

  1. Cold Start:
    • Place saw on firm, flat ground. Engage chain brake.
    • Activate the choke by setting the master control lever to the full choke position (symbol: closed choke).
    • Press the fuel pump (purge bulb) 5-6 times until fuel is visible in the bulb.
    • Pull the starter cord sharply until the engine 'fires' (usually 2-4 pulls).
    • Immediately move the master control lever to the half-throttle (warm start) position.
    • Pull the starter cord again. The engine should start.
    • Blip the throttle to disengage the start setting. The engine will return to idle.
  2. Warm Start: Set master control lever to half-throttle position. Pull starter cord.
  3. Stopping: Release the throttle and allow the engine to return to idle. Press and hold the stop switch until the engine stops completely.

WARNING! Never drop-start the chainsaw. Always engage the chain brake when starting.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance is crucial for safety and performance.

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check fuel level. Inspect for loose nuts/bolts. Clean air filter (if dirty).
Weekly / 5 HoursClean the external surfaces. Clean the spark arrestor screen in the muffler. Check the chain brake function.
Monthly / 20 HoursClean or replace air filter. Clean the cooling fins. Check spark plug condition and gap. Clean the fuel filter.
Annually / 100 HoursReplace fuel filter. Replace spark plug. Clean the carburetor intake and fuel tank. Check all fuel lines and impulse line. Have the cylinder and piston inspected by a qualified technician.

Carburetor Adjustment

The carburetor is preset at the factory. Adjustment should only be necessary due to changes in altitude, temperature, or after servicing. Use a tachometer for accurate adjustment.

  1. Idle Speed (T): Adjust so the chain does not move when the engine idles. Typical idle speed is 2700 rpm.
  2. High-Speed Jet (H): Controls maximum engine speed and power. Adjust for maximum RPM without "4-stroking" (sputtering sound) at full throttle, no load. Max RPM should not exceed 13,000.
  3. Low-Speed Jet (L): Controls fuel mixture at idle and low throttle. Adjust for smooth acceleration from idle to full throttle without hesitation.

CAUTION! Incorrect carburetor adjustment can cause severe engine damage. If unsure, consult a Husqvarna authorized service dealer.

Spark Plug & Ignition System

A faulty spark plug is a common cause of starting and running problems.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Engine will not startNo spark, stale fuel, flooded engine, clogged air filter, incorrect choke settingCheck spark plug. Use fresh fuel. Follow flooded start procedure (set to half-throttle, pull many times). Clean air filter.
Engine starts but diesClogged fuel filter, dirty carburetor, faulty fuel line, incorrect idle settingReplace fuel filter. Clean carburetor. Check fuel lines. Adjust idle speed (T screw).
Lacks power at high speedClogged air filter, dirty spark arrestor, incorrect H screw setting, worn piston/cylinderClean air filter and spark arrestor. Adjust H screw. Check compression.
Engine runs unevenly or surgesAir leak (crank seals, gaskets), dirty carburetor, incorrect L screw settingCheck for air leaks. Clean carburetor. Adjust L screw.
Excessive smoke or fouled plugIncorrect fuel/oil mixture, too much oil, clogged air filter, carburetor running richUse correct 50:1 mix. Clean air filter. Adjust carburetor (L & H screws).
