Read and understand all instructions before operation. Always wear appropriate PPE.
WARNING! A chainsaw is a dangerous tool. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.
Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.
CAUTION! Never start the saw unless the bar and chain are correctly assembled and the chain brake is disengaged.
Master Control Lever: Combined choke, start, and stop functions. Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed to access throttle. Chain Brake Lever: Front hand guard; activates brake manually or by inertia. Decompression Valve: Reduces compression for easier starting. Primer Bulb: For cold starts. Side-Mounted Chain Tensioner: For adjusting chain tension.
Right Side: Throttle trigger, throttle trigger lockout, rear handle. Left Side: Chain brake lever (hand guard), choke/stop control, decompression valve (if equipped).
Cold Start:
Warm Start: Master Control Lever in half-throttle position. No priming needed.
Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle. Move Master Control Lever to stop position.
Use a firm grip with both hands. Maintain secure footing.
Tip: Let the saw run at full speed before entering the cut. Do not force the saw.
| Interval | Task |
|---|---|
| Daily / Before Use | Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check all nuts and bolts for tightness. Clean air filter. Check fuel and oil levels. |
| Every 10 Hours | Clean spark plug, check electrode gap. Clean cooling fins and cylinder cover. Clean chain brake mechanism. |
| Every 50 Hours | Replace spark plug. Clean fuel filter. Check carburetor settings (idle speed, max speed). |
| Every 100 Hours | Replace fuel filter. Clean/replace air filter more thoroughly. Check clutch, drum, and sprocket for wear. |
| Annually / End of Season | Full service recommended. Drain fuel system for storage. |
Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 4.0mm or 4.8mm). Maintain 30° filing angle on top plate. File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges (rakers) with flat file and gauge.
Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Turn tensioning screw clockwise until chain fits snugly against bar. Chain should pull freely by hand but not sag from bar. Tighten bar nuts while lifting tip of bar. Re-check tension after tightening.
CAUTION! Always wear gloves when handling chain. A sharp chain is safer and more efficient than a dull one.
For storage longer than 30 days:
CAUTION! Old fuel can gum up carburetor. Always use fresh fuel mix.
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Engine will not start | No spark, flooded, stale fuel | Check spark plug, gap, and wire. Move control to half-throttle and pull without choke. Use fresh fuel mix. |
| Engine starts but dies | Clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter, carburetor adjustment | Replace fuel filter. Clean air filter. Check idle speed screw. |
| Loss of power | Clogged air filter, fouled spark plug, clogged muffler screen | Clean/replace air filter and spark plug. Clean muffler spark arrestor screen. |
| Chain does not turn | Clutch worn, drive sprocket worn, chain brake engaged | Check clutch springs and shoes. Replace worn sprocket. Disengage chain brake. |
| Chain throws oil but does not cut | Dull chain, incorrect filing, worn bar rails | Sharpen chain correctly. Check bar for wear and dress if necessary. |
| Excessive vibration | Loose components, unbalanced chain, damaged anti-vibration mounts | Tighten all nuts and bolts. Balance chain by sharpening evenly. Check anti-vibration mounts. |
