Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operating. Failure to follow warnings can result in serious injury or death.

  1. General Safety: Keep bystanders, especially children and pets, away from the mowing area.
  2. Slope Operation: Do not mow on slopes greater than 15 degrees. Mow up and down slopes, not across.
  3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear safety glasses, sturdy footwear, long pants, and hearing protection.
  4. Pre-Operation Inspection: Check for loose parts, tire pressure, fuel/oil leaks, and blade condition before each use.
  5. Safe Starting: Ensure PTO is disengaged, control levers are in neutral, and parking brake is set before starting engine.

DANGER! Keep hands and feet away from moving parts and the cutting deck. Never operate without the discharge chute or grass catcher in place.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts against the packing list. Assembly requires basic tools.

  1. Install Steering Control Levers: Attach lap bars to the pivot points and secure with provided pins.
  2. Attach Seat: Position seat on mounting plate and secure with bolts.
  3. Connect Battery: Connect red (+) cable first, then black (-) cable. Secure battery in tray.
  4. Check Tire Pressure: Inflate all tires to recommended PSI (see Specifications).
  5. Add Fluids: Fill engine with recommended oil. Add fuel (unleaded gasoline only).
  6. Deck Leveling: Adjust deck to ensure level cutting (refer to deck manual).

CAUTION! Use proper lifting techniques or assistance when handling heavy components like the cutting deck.

Controls and Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Dashboard/Control Panel: Ignition Key Switch, PTO Engagement Switch, Throttle/Choke Control, Hour Meter, Fuel Gauge.

Steering Controls: Two independent lap bars (control levers). Pushing both forward = move straight forward. Pulling both back = reverse. Pushing one forward while pulling the other back = pivot turn.

Operation Steps: 1. Sit in seat, ensure parking brake is engaged. 2. Move both control levers fully out to neutral lock position. 3. Disengage PTO (blades off). 4. Set throttle to halfway, turn key to start. 5. Release parking brake. 6. To move, slowly release levers from neutral and push forward/pull back as desired. 7. To engage blades, increase engine speed to full throttle, then engage PTO switch.

Stopping: Disengage PTO, move levers to neutral, engage parking brake, turn key to OFF.

Cutting Deck Operation

For optimal cutting performance and deck longevity.

  1. Height Adjustment: Use deck lift lever (manual or hydraulic) to set desired cutting height. Mow at highest setting for tall grass, then lower.
  2. Engagement: Always engage PTO at full engine throttle to prevent belt slippage.
  3. Mowing Patterns: Overlap passes by 2-3 inches for even cut. Alternate direction each time you mow.
  4. Obstacles: Slow down when approaching obstacles. Raise deck if necessary.
  5. Wet Grass: Avoid mowing when grass is wet to prevent clumping and deck clogging.

Tip: Keep deck underside clean. Wash out grass clippings after each use to prevent rust and corrosion.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance is critical for performance and safety.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck tire pressure, fluid levels, for loose parts/blades
Every 8 hoursClean deck underside, check for debris around engine/pulleys
Every 50 hoursChange engine oil and oil filter, grease all fittings, check air filter
Every 100 hoursReplace air filter, spark plug, check drive belt tension
Every 200 hoursChange hydraulic fluid and filter (transaxle), check battery
SeasonallySharpen or replace blades, check tire condition

Blade Sharpening/Replacement: Disconnect spark plug wire. Safely remove deck or tilt mower. Use a torque wrench to tighten blade bolts to specification.

Storage & Winterization

Proper storage extends machine life.

  1. Fuel System: Add fuel stabilizer to tank, run engine for 5 minutes to circulate. Or, drain fuel tank and carburetor completely.
  2. Battery: Disconnect battery cables. Clean terminals. Store battery in a cool, dry place and charge periodically.
  3. Cleaning: Thoroughly clean entire mower, especially the cutting deck. Apply a light oil coating to bare metal parts to prevent rust.
  4. Storage Location: Store in a clean, dry place, protected from the elements.
  5. Tires: Inflate to proper pressure. Consider placing mower on blocks to take weight off tires.

CAUTION! Never store the mower with fuel in the tank indoors or near an open flame.
