Assembly & Setup

For new mowers requiring assembly (typically deck and steering wheel).

  1. Uncrate and inspect all parts against packing list.
  2. Install steering wheel: Align and tighten bolt.
  3. Attach cutting deck: Position under mower, connect lift linkage and drive belt (refer to specific assembly guide).
  4. Check tire pressure: Inflate to 14 PSI (front) and 10 PSI (rear).
  5. Add engine oil and fuel: Use SAE 10W-30 oil (approx. 2 qts) and fresh unleaded gasoline.
  6. Perform pre-operation checks: Battery connection, fluid levels, loose hardware.

CAUTION! Use proper lifting equipment or assistance; deck is heavy.

Operation Instructions

Operating the zero-turn mower effectively and safely.

  1. Starting: Follow starting procedure in Controls section.
  2. Mowing: Engage PTO switch to spin blades. Use lap bars to control speed and direction. For straight lines, push both bars forward equally.
  3. Turning: To turn left, pull left lap bar back while keeping right bar forward. Reverse for right turn.
  4. Stopping: Release lap bars to neutral, disengage PTO, engage parking brake, turn key to OFF.
  5. Slope Mowing: Mow up and down slopes, not across. Reduce speed on slopes.
  6. Reverse Operation: Look behind you. The mower may beep in reverse as a warning (if equipped).

Tip: Overlap cutting passes by a few inches for a clean, even cut.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures long life and optimal performance.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck engine oil level, tire pressure, and for loose hardware.
Every 8 hoursCheck tire pressure; clean deck (using wash port).
Every 25 hoursChange engine oil (first 5 hours for break-in), check air filter, grease fittings.
Every 50 hoursReplace air filter, check spark plugs, inspect blades.
Every 100 hoursChange oil filter, check transmission fluid, inspect belts.
SeasonallySharpen/replace blades, check battery, prepare for storage.

Blade Care & Sharpening

Sharp blades provide a clean cut and reduce strain on the engine.

  1. Disconnect spark plug wire for safety.
  2. Raise deck to highest position and block securely.
  3. Remove blade bolt (may require breaker bar; note rotation direction for reinstallation).
  4. Sharpen blade with a file or grinder to maintain original cutting angle. Balance blade using a balancer.
  5. Reinstall blade with bolt tightened to 70-90 ft-lbs. Torque properly.
  6. Check blade condition regularly for excessive wear, cracks, or damage. Replace if damaged.

WARNING! Always wear heavy gloves when handling blades.

Storage & Winterization

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Add fuel stabilizer to gas tank and run engine for 5 minutes to circulate.
  2. Change engine oil and filter at end of season.
  3. Clean mower thoroughly, especially under the deck.
  4. Remove battery, clean terminals, and store in a cool, dry place on a trickle charger.
