Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operation.

  1. Always wear appropriate safety gear: eye protection, hearing protection, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
  2. Clear mowing area of debris, rocks, and other objects before starting.
  3. Never allow children or untrained persons to operate the mower.
  4. Do not mow on slopes greater than 15 degrees; mow up and down slopes, not across.
  5. Disengage PTO and set parking brake before dismounting.

WARNING! Rotating blades can cause severe injury. Keep hands and feet away from deck while engine is running. Engine components become extremely hot; allow to cool before servicing.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires basic tools.

  1. Install steering lap bars: Attach to control panel with provided hardware.
  2. Attach seat: Mount seat onto seat plate and secure with bolts.
  3. Install battery: Connect red (+) cable first, then black (-) cable.
  4. Check tire pressure: Inflate to 14 PSI (front) and 10 PSI (rear).
  5. Add engine oil: Use SAE 10W-30; fill to mark on dipstick.
  6. Add fuel: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (87 octane minimum).

CAUTION! Ensure all bolts are tightened to specified torque. Keep assembly area clean and well-lit.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting engine.

Control Panel: Ignition switch, PTO engagement switch, throttle control, choke, hour meter.

Lap Bars: Move both forward to go straight; move one forward/backward to turn; move both backward to reverse (with reverse caution mode).

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Before each use: Check engine oil level, tire pressure, and for loose hardware.
  2. Every 8 hours: Clean deck underside, check blade condition.
  3. Every 50 hours: Change engine oil and filter, grease spindles and fittings.
  4. Every 100 hours: Replace air filter, spark plugs, check belt tension.
  5. Every 300 hours: Change hydrostatic transmission fluid (if serviceable).
  6. Seasonally: Sharpen/replace blades, check battery charge, lubricate control linkages.

Tip: Keep a maintenance log to track service intervals.

Engine Care (Kawasaki FR)

Kawasaki FR Series engine requires specific care.

  1. Oil Change: Use SAE 10W-30 (above 32°F) or 5W-30 (below 32°F). Capacity: 2 quarts with filter.
  2. Air Filter: Clean foam pre-cleaner every 25 hours; replace paper element every 100 hours.
  3. Spark Plugs: Gap at 0.030 inches; replace annually or every 100 hours.
  4. Fuel System: Use fuel stabilizer if storing over 30 days; drain or run dry for long-term storage.
  5. Cooling Fins: Keep clean of debris to prevent overheating.

WARNING! Engine must be off and cool before servicing. Disconnect spark plug wire for safety.

Deck Adjustment & Blade Care

Proper deck leveling ensures even cut and prevents scalping.

  1. Deck Leveling: Park on level surface. Adjust lift links to set cutting height. Measure blade tip height at all four corners.
  2. Blade Removal: Disconnect spark plug wire. Use blade removal tool to hold blade; remove bolt (usually left-hand thread).
  3. Blade Sharpening: Sharpen at 30-degree angle; balance blade before reinstalling.
  4. Belt Inspection: Check for cracks, fraying, or wear; adjust tension if loose.

CAUTION! Wear heavy gloves when handling blades. Ensure deck is securely supported when working underneath.

Storage & Winterization

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Clean mower thoroughly, especially underside of deck.
  2. Add fuel stabilizer to tank and run engine for 5 minutes to circulate.
  3. Change engine oil and filter.
  4. Remove battery, clean terminals, and store on trickle charger in cool, dry place.
  5. Store in dry, covered location; elevate deck if storing on concrete.

CAUTION! Do not store with fuel in carburetor without stabilizer. Never store near open flame or heat source.
